The events of the XIII Festival of Biodiversity 2019 (12 - 24 September), organized by the North Park of Milan.

The Festival opened a few days ago, on 12 September, with an interesting meeting organized by the Scientific Committee and dedicated to promoting a reflection on the notion of dbiological, cultural and linguistic university, highlighting the similarities between them, but also what distinguishes them.

The confrontation, which I personally witnessed, saw scientists and decidedly authoritative figures as protagonists:

• Ivan Bargna, anthropologist, professor at the University of Milan-Bicocca (on video)
• Salvatore Zingale, semiologist, professor at the School of Design-Polytechnic of Milan
• Roberto Marchesini, ethologist, philosopher and zooanthropologist
• Claudia Sorlini, emeritus professor of agricultural microbiology at the State University of Milan.

The interventions moderated by Riccardo Gini, Director of Parco Nord Milano, after the introduction by Roberto Cornelli, President of Parco Nord Milano, dealt in particular with the different ways of communication between humans, other animals and plants, the different forms of relationship created with the natural environment and interconnection with the society in which we live.

SEMI Award (Seeds for a common future) 2019

Today, September 17th, starting from 6.30 pm, at Oxy.gen, in via Campestre, in Bresso, it will be the turn of the announcement of the winners of the SEMI award, established by the Scientific Committee of the Biodiversity Festival and open to all public or private organizations that have distinguished themselves most in combining the protection of biodiversity with sustainable development, improving the quality of life of people and the natural environment of their respective territories.

The main objective of the award is to enhance the ideas and projects followed by concrete interventions capable of promoting the importance of biodiversity in people's daily lives at all levels and over a medium-term period.

If biodiversity is an important aspect of living nature that has accompanied the history of biological evolution, constituting its engine and, at the same time, the product, and if something cannot be protected without knowing it, it is equally true that knowing biodiversity is not enough to protect it, keep it and implement it.

Dedicating time, energy, skills and studies to the conservation of biodiversity helps to promote and increase the aspects of sustainability that the Festival intends to disseminate each year and which may have an impact on our future descendants.

With this vision, the Scientific Committee of the Biodiversity Festival establishes a gross cash prize of 500 Euros, as a liberal donation, the winners of which are called "pioneers of biodiversity conservation".

In 2019 the Scientific Committee of the Biodiversity Festival wanted to reward 5 Associations that have distinguished themselves in special international cooperation projects that have achieved
concrete results in the conservation of biodiversity through collaboration with local communities:

  • FRATELLI DELL’UOMO with the project "REFORESTATION AND ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN OXAPAMPA - 2014-2019"
  • SURVIVAL with the project "THE GUAJAJARA GUARDIANS AND FACTORY SCHOOL"
  • VIVAMAZZONIA with the "ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN GASPAR ON RIO JUAPERI"
  • CESVI with "THE GUARDIANS OF THE AMAZON"
  • SLOW FOOD with "10000 GARDENS IN AFRICA"

The guys from FridayForFuture will also participate in the evening.
